Market Population

Within only two hours (110 miles) of Sullivan County resides over 26,000,000 people. This geographic area encompasses one of the richest markets in the world.

Proximity to the New York Metro market still remains Sullivan County’s core strength in attracting investment. Our strategic location offers a key advantage for firms requiring access to truck and air transportation.  Sullivan County Airport has a newly renovated 6,300 foot runway, enhanced landing and lighting systems on a 600 parcel of land. Our extensive network of sophisticated fiber optic and digital switching systems offers world-class advantages. Land, labor and capital have become increasingly less available and more costly in areas more proximate to New York City. It is becoming more evident that firms can look deeper into the heart of the county for their development options. Our cost of land remains competitive relative to other areas of the Hudson Valley.

In addition Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, a $100 million project which opened in July 2006, is one of the largest economic development endeavors the region has seen in recent times. In 2009, Bethel Woods attracted over 400,000 people to the County.

This critical mass will introduce Sullivan County to a larger, more diverse group, creating opportunities for existing businesses, entrepreneurs and the financial community. The impact of Bethel Woods will reach beyond the borders of Sullivan County and the Hudson Valley.

Historically, the Partnership has positioned the County for regional and national corporate development. To that end, we have seen investments from Wal-Mart, Kohl’s, Home Depot, a subsidiary of Kellogg’s and a subsidiary of Frito Lay. There has been a steady increase in inquiries from national corporations in Sullivan County as a viable option for relocation or new capital investment, including manufacturing concerns from Vermont and Canada. Those firms that have located here have proven that Sullivan County has the capacity to be competitive in the regional, national and global economy.

Our strategic Mid-Hudson location offers a key advantage for firms requiring access to truck and air transportation. Sullivan County International Airport has a newly renovated 6,300 foot runway, enhanced landing and lighting systems on a 600 acre parcel of land. In addition, Stewart Airport in Newburgh has become a true regional airport with daily flights to major American cities. With a new exit ramp coming off of I-84, Stewart can be reached from Monticello in less than an hour.
