A Beloved Catskills Tradition Finds New Life
For generations, Holiday Mountain has been more than a ski hill. It has been a place where families learned to ski, local kids spent winter weekends, and visitors discovered the charm of the Catskills. First opened in 1957, the mountain became a staple of winter recreation in Sullivan County and an important part of the region’s identity.
Like many small, independent ski areas, Holiday Mountain faced years of challenges. Aging infrastructure, shifting weather patterns, and financial pressures left much of the mountain closed and raised concerns that the property could be lost to development.
Under the new ownership of the Taylor family — longtime local skiers and business owners — Holiday Mountain has undergone a remarkable revitalization. Major investments in snowmaking, trail restoration, lighting, lift improvements, and new tubing facilities have helped transform the mountain while preserving its community-focused spirit.
Today, Holiday Mountain is once again buzzing with activity, welcoming residents and visitors back to a place deeply tied to Sullivan County’s recreational heritage.
As Holiday Mountain continues its rebirth, it stands as a reminder that some of the region’s strongest success stories are rooted in local pride, long-term investment, and a belief in what Sullivan County can become.
